WHAT DOES A CERTIFIED ELECTROPLATER DO?

In the electroplating process, an object is thinly coated with a specific metal to give it qualities it would not otherwise have. The Certified Electroplater:

    1)    Checks quality, measures surface are, weight-count into loads, loads work into barrels or racks

    2)    Clean, activate, plate, coat, rinse & dry piece parts in various chemical baths

    3)    Set controls, adjust bath temperature/pH, adds chemicals to tanks, analyze baths

    4)    Adjust equipment, measure plating thickness, test work quality, instruct subordinates

    5)    Monitor pollution control systems, adjust effluent pH, add chemicals, analyze effluent

WHERE DO CERTIFIED ELECTROPLATERS WORK?

In the 6 county Chicago metropolitan area, there are approximately 250 firms that plate work by the barrel, rack & continuous coil methods, using precious metals like gold, silver & platinum, as well as non precious metals such as copper, nickel, tin, & zinc. Industries include high-tech electronics, automotive, aerospace & military.

Electroplater Helper $7.50-$9.50 HOUR
Plating Process Helper $9.00-$12.00 HOUR
Electroplating Line Operator $9.50-$12.75 HOUR
Electroplating Lead Operator $10.00-$15.50 HOUR
Quality Laboratory Technician $11.50-$16.75 HOUR
Plating Process Technician $15.00-$25.00 HOUR

    The purpose of IMF placement services is to help graduates get a job. Graduates are entitled to placement services at no additional cost. While IMF cannot guarantee employment to any graduate, we can provide contacts, guidance, and assistance in your Job search. Alumni are welcome to these services within 3 years of graduation.

392 Class hours, approximately 13 weeks (3.3 months)

WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS?

Peter H. Tremmel, Program Director, is a Certified Quality Engineer (C.Q.E.) with more than 30 years of practical experience in quality assurance, metal finishing, & process engineering. He holds several patents in metal finishing.

Peter R. Tremmel, Instructor, is a chemist & consultant to a number of metal finishing/electroplating firms.

GRANT AVAILABILITY FOR TUITION & FEES

If you are a resident of the City of Chicago & if your total household income falls below the following guidelines, you may qualify for a grant from the City of Chicago to pay your tuition & fees.

INCOME GUIDELINES TO QUALIFY FOR TUITION GRANT:

For Family Units with more than 6 members, add $4,210 to the income level for each additional member.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO QUALIFY FOR TUITION GRANT:

 

1. Birth Certificate

2. Social Security Card

3. Proof of Address (Gas Bill, Light Bill, Telephone Bill)

4. Proof of Citizenship (Voter's Registration Card) or Alien Registration

5. Illinois State Drivers License or State Identification Card

6. Registration for Selective Service

7. Proof of Income for the last 6 months:

        check stubs

        TANF authorization

        letter of support from persons or organizations providing for your living expenses

 

STEPS TO ENROLL:

 

1. Attend an IMF Orientation session.

2. Complete an IMF Application for Admission.

3. Complete the Test of Basic Education & Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test.

4. Interview with a member of the IMF staff.

5. Provide all required documentation.

6. Complete the Enrollment Agreement.

 

IMF reserves the right to make the final determination for acceptance into the program.
